English George II longcase clock. Oak case of good proportions with exceptional quality carvings to both trunk and base. Eight-day movement with countwheel, striking the hour on a bell. Silvered brass arch dial with seconds ring and maker's name engraved on a boss in the arch:

John Agar. Fulford.

John Agar is listed as being born in 1730 and having died 1815, and was probably the most renowned of this distinguished family of York clockmakers. A watch made by him is displayed in the British Museum. This clock was constructed circa 1760.
