HomePlatinum Range Longcase Clocks: Blackie (Scottish)

A very elegant Scottish longcase clock. The case, with crossbanding and reeded quarter columns to sides, has selected flame veneers to both trunk and base. The swan-neck hood, with original brass paterie, has reeded brass capped columns and decorative carved wood sound frets below swan neck. Eight-day duration movement, striking hours on a bell. The hand-painted, white arch dial with both calendar and date rings has the maker's name and date of construction within a leaf surround in the arch:

George Blackie. Musselburgh 1797

(Height: 8 feet.)

Footnote: It is rare to see a date of construction on a longcase clock—and when there is, it is normally associated with a wedding clock.
