HomePlatinum Range Longcase Clocks: Broderick (English)

Creasey Broderick walnut longcase clock

An elegant George III break-arched English longcase clock. The light walnut case has a curly-topped swan-necked hood, a regional feature of the period, complete with round gilded brass Corinthian-capped walnut columns on either side. The trunk has book-matched walnut-veneered panels to trunk door, and quarter-reeded columns to sides. The base has cantered sides and a book-matched veneered panel to front.

High-quality eight-day-duration movement strikes the hours on a bell. The finely painted arch dial displays an "English Man-o'-War" under sail in the arch, with shell patterns to all four corners. The dial also includes a seconds ring and lunette date aperture, and is inscribed with the maker's name:

Creasey Broderick. Boston.

$24,000

Recorded working in Bostin in 1791 as both a clock- & watchmaker.*
