A magnificent and very rare English George II longcase clock. The solid mahogany case with pagoda hood having fishscale front and side frets, surmounted with three solid brass finials and brass reeded columns to both trunk and hood. Case has been decorated either by or in the style of Angelica Kauffman (1741-1807). Eight-day duration, five-pillar movement, striking the hours on a bell.

Silvered brass arch dial with strike/silent in arch. Recessed seconds ring with scalloped edge and date aperture. The makers name is engraved on silvered brass plaque on centre matting:

Robert Seagrave. Bishops Stortford.

Robert Seagrave worked first in Bishops Stortford (Hertfordshire) then later recorded in London from 1773 until 1811.
