A George III Scottish longcase clock of small proportions. The hood is flanked by reeded mahogany pillars with gilded brass Corinthian capitals, surmounted by a swan-necked pediment with brass paterae and ball-and-eagle finial. Both trunk and base have figured veneers while the trunk door has a boxwood surround with a large oval inlay to center. The high quality four-pillar, eight-day-duration movement strikes the hours on a bell. The hand-painted arch dial has exceptionally fine marine artwork with gold leaf and green fan patterns in all four corners. The dial includes both seconds and calendar rings and is inscribed with the maker's name: Alexander Millar. Montrose. Recorded working between 1798 and 1808.* Sold |
