HomePlatinum Range Longcase Clocks: "Regulator" (English)

An English, early Victorian longcase regulator. The attractive case with glazed door is veneered with both mahogany and rosewood. Full reeded hood columns with brass capitals and half-reeded trunk columns surmounted with brass corinthian caps complete the decoration. Eight-day duration, time only movement with chamfered plates. Dead beat escapement and maintaining power.

The round silvered brass dial, with subsidiary seconds and hour rings, is engraved with the inscription:

"REGULATOR"

Maker unknown. Circa 1850. The exceptional quality of this movement suggests it was constructed by one of three makers: Thwaites & Reed, Elliotts, or Smith's of Clerkenwell.
