A George III Scottish Edinburgh longcase clock. The slim, well-proportioned solid mahogany case with superb veneers has both fan and urn inlays to trunk and base. The swan neck hood with ebony on satin wood inlays to front is surmounted with center brass finial. Eight-day-duration movement striking the hours on a bell.

The single-sheet silvered brass arch dial with seconds ring and date aperture is finely engraved, displaying the maker's name in the arch:

John Skirving is recorded working from 1771 until 1781.
