HomePlatinum Range Longcase Clocks: Williams (Welsh)

Mahogany longcase clock, circa 1760

An extremely tall Welsh longcase clock of fine quality and attractive proportions. The exceptional mahogany case has swan-necked hood, gilded brass paterae, surmounted with a Phoenix/urn finial, and gilded brass Corinthian-capped, reeded columns to sides.

The trunk has a receded panel above the flame-veneered trunk door with gilded brass Corinthian-capped, receded columns to sides. The base has broken receded panel above cantered reeded corners, and raised center panel with cross banding surround.

Has superior eight-day three-train duration movement, striking the quarters on eight bells and the hours on a ninth bell. The arched, hand-painted dial has "moon phase" in arch, ecliptic maps below, and the four seasons depicted in all corners. The dial also includes a sweep calendar hand, seconds ring, and is inscribed with the maker's name:

Robert Williams. Wrexham.
