HomePlatinum Range Longcase Clocks: Worthington (English)

Mahogany longcase clock, circa 1760

An English longcase clock with rare automata featuring a rocking "Father Time" in the arch. The mahogany veneered case surmounted with classic "triangular pediment" has rare original brass urn finial mounted between, while reeded-brass-capped columns sit either side of the hood door. The trunk has a satinwood panel over the door with fruitwood surround, while the trunk door with satinwood surround has an oval design to center of door.

Has eight-day duration movement with countwheel and repeater work, striking hours on the bell. The silvered brass arch dial with automata has brass castings either side of two of the four seasons.

The dial also includes a seconds ring and date aperture and is engraved with the commissioned owner's name:

James Worthington

This splendid clock has no recorded maker or mention of town where his business could be found, so this would be the name of the person who commissioned the clock. The characteristics of both movement and case date this clock circa 1760.
