English longcase clock with long duration movement. Ebonised oak case with classic London Caddy Top hood, gilded wood caps to hood columns and gilded wood finials above. A rare two-month time only duration movement. The square single sheet silvered brass dial has a subsidiary seconds ring and is engraved with the maker's name:

William Smith. London.

There were a number of William Smiths working in London at the time of this clock's construction. (The pillars on the movement date the clock circa 1760). As a time-only piece it was probably made for a library, bank, or lawyer's office.
